How To Astound Your Non-Cycling Friends

I recently discovered an excellent way to generate interest in cycling among non- and quasi-cyclists.

Here's what you do:

  1. Bring your non-cycling (or semi-cycling) friends to a cycling event. The kind with lots of cyclists in lycra.
  2. Explain little bits and pieces of what's going on, how it fits into the world of cycling, etc.
  3. At some point, casually add, "...And none of these people are wearing underwear."

Trust me on this one. It works.

This morning's ride stats:
7.3 miles
16.8 MPH (Hey! Found the big ring again! Whaddaya know!)
STICKY. Blarrrrghh.

This morning's 'how was the ride' conversation:

Me: Hot enough for ya?
Jens: Yeah -- it's only like 77 out there, but the air is ... heavy. How was your ride?
Me: Sticky.
Jens: No kidding! It was like pushing through water.
Me: Well, at least we'll be well-prepared for the Underwater Cycling event at this year's Improbable Games.
